Tumblr’s advertising problem summed up in 1 orange cat

Now that Yahoo has purchased Tumblr, a good deal of speculation has gone into the question of, you know, what the hell Yahoo is going to do with it. A blog post by noted media analyst John Battelle floated the idea that it’s all about Tumblr’s native advertising system, something Yahoo is just beginning to explore.

There’s just one problem with that hypothesis: Tumblr users hate Tumblr’s native ads.

Or everyone can just transfer their Tumblr to the alternative, WordPress, where everything is easy to use, understand, navigate, and is, oh so, aesthetically pleasing.

The Onion made an awful, trite, stupid joke and they apologized for it (rightly so), and now these comedians are coming out of the wood works like the realm of comedy is in danger of being annihilated by censorship.

No, no it’s not. Everyone grasped the “joke”, it failed and if you have to write an essay explaining why it was ok for The Onion to call a child the c-word then maybe you should re-evaluate some of your comedic choices.

Also, Quvenzhané is NINE YEARS OLD and not your friend at a bar.

Reading Dave Cullen’s “Columbine,” which details the everyday bravery and protectiveness of that school’s teachers, I was struck by that same feeling. In the early years of space flight, both Russians and Americans used pencils in space. Unfortunately, pencil lead is made of graphite, a highly conductive material. Snapped graphite leads and particles in zero gravity are hugely problematic, as they will get sucked into the air ventilation or electronic equipment, easily causing shorts or fires in the pure oxygen environment of a capsule.

After the fire in Apollo 1 which killed all the astronauts on board, NASA required a writing instrument that wasn’t a fire hazard. Fisher spent over a million dollars (of his own money) creating a pressurized ball point pen, which NASA bought at $2.95 each. The Russian space program also switched over from pencils shortly after.
